Don’t Miss ‘Discover Korea Live 2020’

Want to connect with your favorite Korean influencers, K-pop stars, or just experience the beauty of South Korea virtually? Then you’ll definitely want to check out the 2-day online event ‘Discover Korea Live 2020‘.

Over the years, the number of foreign tourists to South Korea has steadily increased. The country had hoped to bring in 20 million visitors in 2020, an all-time high. However, COVID-19 has obviously put a hold on those plans. (It should be noted that Korea is open to tourists from many countries, but they’ll be required to do a 14-day mandatory quarantine that costs anywhere from $1500 – $2000 USD).

“Open your heart, Feel the vibe of Korea”

However, in spite of the pandemic, the Korea Tourism Organization New York branch has come up with an innovative way for would-be travelers to explore Korea: a 2-day online event named ‘Discover Korea Live 202’.

The virtual event includes various video broadcasts, live streams, contests, and online fan meetings. In total, 10 hours of programming can be enjoyed from the comfort and safety of your home.

The lineup of entertainment includes various experts on Korean food, movies, and beauty, as well as international talent including “Everybody Loves Raymond” creator Phil Rosenthal (star of ‘Somebody Feed Phil’ on Netflix), as well as K-Pop star Ailee.

On a personal note, I’m excited to announce that I will also be participating in the event as a local influencer and YouTuber in Korea, and will be introducing the cities of Seoul and Andong in a segment titled ‘Six Jewels, Six Stories’. In each of the cities, I will introduce one traditional place, one Hallyu-related place, and one local food. I’m excited for you to see what we did!

Other guests of the program include YouTubers Whitney Bae, David Kim (DKDKTV), Levi Berhardt, and Ke Sung Anderson. TV Host and Producer Darley Newman will tell stories of her time traveling through South Korea.

“I filmed in Korea in November for an episode of my PBS series, Travels with Darley, which is also on Ovation TV’s Journy. During my segment for discoverKorealive, I’ll be talking about my experiences free diving with the Haenyeo on Jeju Island (brrr, but amazing), trying street food in Seoul, taking a K-pop dance lesson (not easy, but I did bring some NY moves 😉), experiencing K-beauty and more,” Newman said via Instagram.

American YouTuber Adrienne Hill will host an event titled “All About K-Beauty” on Day 2.I’m going to be showing my Korean skincare routine, followed by showing Korean vs Western – style makeup! So half the face Korean makeup, half the American-style makeup. All brands will be Korean.” Hill said.

Day 1 of the event will include a temple food cooking class by Monk chef and cookbook author Wookwan, a discussion about Korean cinema with Pierce Conran, and conclude with a special performance from the K-Tigers Taekwondo Performance Team with star Na Tae-Joo.

On this day, I will introduce a few of my favorite places in Seoul, while Ke Sung Anderson and Levi Bernhardt introduce Busan and Jeonju in our segment.

Day 2 will feature an online cooking class with Chef Jae-eung Jung, a talk with YouTuber Whitney Bae, and end with a virtual dance party hosted by DJ JVNA. Be sure to tune in to check out ‘Tastes Seoul Good‘ introduce the city of Andong on this day!

The event is sure to be full of fun for those suffering from a bit of wanderlust, and those who want to experience Korea without having to deal with the current inconveniences of travel.
